Challenge

Transfers and acquiring had to work correctly under load and leave an auditable trail. Reporting had to satisfy compliance requirements, which made silent data errors unacceptable.

The system was made up of several services — payments, acquiring, ledger and reporting — built by different teams. Each service was tested on its own, but problems often appeared between them: a field renamed in one API, a different rounding rule in another. Those errors didn’t always fail loudly. Sometimes they only surfaced later, as a mismatch in a report.

Traffic also peaked at predictable times, and nobody had verified how the system behaved at those peaks until they happened in production.

Solution

We combined UI and API automation with contract testing between services and added load testing for peak periods, so correctness and capacity were both verified before release.

Automated API tests for transfers and acquiring that check amounts, statuses and the records each operation leaves behind.
Added contract tests between services, so a breaking API change fails in the pipeline of the team that made it.
Kept a focused UI automation layer for the customer and back-office flows that matter most.
Ran load tests modelled on peak periods before releases that touched the transaction path.
Linked test results to each build, so there is a clear record of what was verified and when.

Results

Transfers, acquiring, and reporting are validated automatically on every release, and the team can show exactly what was tested for each build.

Integration errors between services are caught in testing rather than discovered in reports.
Capacity is checked before peak periods instead of being tested by them.
Audit and compliance questions about a release can be answered from the test records.
